The Watcher at the Bloomsbury Festival

A stunning location, one of the most beloved areas of London, home of many artists and writers, hosted the Bloomsbury Festival last weekend.

This will not be a proper reportage of the events of the festival; this article will sum up the feelings and best moments of the Bloomsbury Fest.

First of all, it is a celebration of all arts through a common theme: this year it was ‘Language’. Language can be many things, from the written and spoken word to the language of music and dance, through paintings and visual arts. Every event and participant performed the theme of language through his/her point of view. What most struck us was the simplicity but at the same time the profundity of thought with which this theme was developed throughout the festival. Moreover, the people we met and spoke with during these days are a variety of artists or art-related workers and thinkers who keep the spirit of Bloomsbury alive and well.

Collaboration, music, feeling, readings. All put together in a splendid celebration of culture and art. Among the many exciting moments of the festival, we want to remember the unveiling of Charlotte Mew blue plaque and the lunch of the book Silly Lady Novelists? by Michèle Roberts, an amazing writer and person. Both moments brought to us a feeling of participation and communion discovering new things and facts, which can help us through our journey into creativity.

We would also like to remember and thank the extraordinary work of the Persephone Books girls. It is still possible in this century to exalt literature as they do.

And thanks to Nicholas Murray and Rack Press for keeping us company and for inviting us to a beautiful afternoon of readings.

A special festival, which help the preservation and the developing of culture and art.
